3D printed joints

2016-current

This project experiments with 3D printed joints that replace sections of a standard Bb clarinet. The fingering for these joints are computer controlled while other parts of the instrument are played by the performer as usual. This type computer/human instrument hybrid offers new possibilities when considering performance speed or precise synchronicity between two or more instruments. Developing 3D models of these components also allows for acoustic research into the affect of irregularly shaped tubes on wind instruments.
